7 Must-know tips to study effectively in the holidays and stay motivated

1. Schedule study time in advance

To prevent the enticing holiday activities sweep you away, take some time to create your study plan for the holiday. When you do this, it helps put in perspective what you need to do. So, write down the courses you want to study each day and your study deadlines. Let your schedule contain possible dates for downtimes that you would use to hang out with your friends.

We place emphasis on using deadlines rather than hours within which you must read. Just know that you must cover a certain amount of pages in your schedule. As much as you want your schedule to be strict, it may be counterproductive. Remember, this is the holidays.

2. Before anything, unwind and recharge

While striving to achieve academic brilliance is necessary, you have to make time for yourself to enjoy the holiday. Before you even begin to study, you can use the first 3 days of the holiday to unwind and refresh. You have spent a certain amount of time in class. Blowing some of that steam is necessary if you hope to be motivated and study effectively.

If you don’t take that 3-day refreshing period, you wouldn’t be able to stay motivated even when you begin to study. You would only be preparing yourself for the most spectacular burnout ever.

3. Start studying in the earlier part of the day

A certain thing about studying during the holidays is that distractions would come, no matter how much you try to avoid them. However, these distractions don’t come in the earlier part of the day. So, take advantage of these quiet earlier parts to be able to keep to schedule. Sleep early so you’ll be able to wake up earlier to study.

4. Study in bits

One of the mistakes you can make is to allow studying during the holidays to be like studying during the school term. To make it different, study in bits. You can do the Pomodoro technique, where you study for about 15 to 20 minutes and take a 5-minute break. If you do this 4 times, you can have a larger 30 minutes break after the 4th time.

5. Study with a buddy

Studying with a buddy boosts your ability to resist the temptations of not studying. If you can see some of your friends having fun and there’s one right next to you studying with you, you wouldn’t feel alone. You two can schedule study sessions together. This would allow your goals to align with each other. You two can hold each other accountable and help each other master the complicated aspects of studying.

6. You may need a quiet place

Distractions can make you spend longer during your studies. To maximize the time you would need to study, find a place that will allow you to be most productive. This could be the library, a coffee shop, or a bookshop.

7. Have some downtime

Apart from the period, you have used in the first week off to refresh, ensure you have other times where for a whole day, you would do whatever you want to relaxation. This could be when you don’t think about studying or school.

Why you should study over the holidays

The advantages of studying during the holidays are;

  • It allows you to keep your brain primed and ready for work. You know how if you want to have big biceps, you have to lift weights? Your brain is like that. It is a muscle. So, to put it in the best shape, you have to use it constantly. Studying during the holidays allows your brain to work in top gear when you resume school after the holidays.
  • It helps you get foreknowledge. Studying over the holidays, especially when you are studying for the next term’s activities, allows you to understand what the teacher would teach. This way, you wouldn’t be lost in class and would find the lectures relatable. You will gain crucial key points.
  • You will be to find the work relatable. When you have studied ahead, you find what the instructor is teaching familiar and relatable.
  • You can use the holidays to revise the previous term. As we have mentioned before, the school term had numerous activities, and you may not be able to catch up on all. You can use the holidays to fill in the gaps in your knowledge.
  • It reduces stress and pressure. When you have studied ahead during the holidays, it helps you to reduce the stress and pressure that comes with a new term. You would be in the right frame of mind to understand what the teacher is teaching.

Conclusion

It is productive for you to study during the holidays. This could be the key to improving your grades.
