10 Benefits of Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a type of yoga that focuses on awakening the kundalini energy that is dormant at the base of the spine. This form of yoga incorporates meditation, mantra, and pranayama (breath control) to activate this energy and promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Kundalini yoga has been shown to improve flexibility, strength, and balance. It can also help to reduce stress and anxiety, enhance the quality of sleep, and enhance overall moods. Anyone interested in trying Kundalini Yoga should speak with a healthcare professional before starting any new exercise routine.

Kundalini Yoga is often referred to as the ‘yoga of awareness’ because it requires practitioners to focus on their breath and posture, as well as their mental state. The practice can be physically demanding, but it offers many benefits, including increased flexibility, strength, and stress relief.

Benefits of Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is the Yoga of Awareness. Its practice creates an opportunity for self-realization, which is nothing less than complete understanding and integration of our entire being with the universal energy (Shakti).

Kundalini yoga practices tone, balance, and strengthen muscles; increase flexibility; reduce stress; heighten concentration; calm the nervous system, and invigorate the body. It also creates a meditative state of mind, deepens awareness of our internal world, and encourages us to keep refining our character.

1. Kundalini Yoga helps one detach oneself from the worldly traps

Detachment is an important life lesson that we can apply to many different areas. It is a tool to help us live in the present and not get caught up in things we do not need. For example, when we’re practicing yoga and find ourselves thinking about work or deadlines, we use our breathing techniques to help us detach from them and focus on Yoga instead.

2. Kundalini Yoga helps one manage anxiety and stress levels

The word anxiety is derived from the Latin meaning ‘to compress.’ When we experience anxiety, it usually has something to do with fear, which happens when we refuse to accept what’s happening around us (in this case, our thoughts & feelings).

According to psychologists James Gross & Robert Levenson: “Anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent psychiatric conditions in community samples.”

3. Kundalini yoga motivates one to seize the day

One of my favorite quotes is by Hunter S. Thompson, who said, “Life should not be a journey to the grave to arrive safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!” And if we do find ourselves on our deathbeds someday, it’s good to know that this quote makes for an awesome last statement.

On the lighter note, Kundalini Yoga helps us reconnect with our inner child who always has endless energy & enthusiasm at their disposal. This allows us to have more fun doing things we love and being who we are.

4. Kundalini Yoga helps one find inner peace

To live a peaceful life, our mind needs to be calm and clear from distractions. If we have problems, thoughts, or feelings that keep bothering us, it’s good meditation practice to sit down in a comfortable position, close our eyes and try to focus on our breathing for a few minutes every day.

After a while, these thoughts will lose their power over you & they’ll become easier to let go of each time you meditate.

5. Kundalini Yoga helps one cope with depression

Depression is an illness characterized by low mood, lack of enjoyment/interest in activities once enjoyed & feelings of sadness that don’t go away. There are several different factors that can cause depression. It can be caused by genetics, chemical changes in the brain, or even childhood trauma.

6. Kundalini Yoga helps one become more emotionally balanced

Emotional intelligence is a very important part of life, and all successful people have it. What sets them apart from the rest is they know how to deal with their emotions in constructive ways that help them learn and grow from them instead of allowing them to destroy forward progress completely.

This is why we need positive role models like Shivaji and Yogi Bhajan, who taught us techniques to keep our minds clear and focused no matter what’s going on around us.

7. Kundalini Yoga helps one gain self-control

Self-control is being able to monitor your thoughts, words, and actions to behave in ways that are beneficial for you. For some people, it’s not easy coming up with good ideas on what they need to work on regarding self-control.

But if we look at the behaviors & decisions of famous sports players who’ve won championships, we can easily see how their temperaments towards themselves and others have played a big part in their success. Now I’m not saying this is exactly how Kundalini Yoga will help you gain self-control, but it definitely provides an environment to explore techniques that can be used as tools later on.

8. Kundalini Yoga helps one embrace the present moment

Kundalini Yoga helps teach us how to live each day mindfully. We need to go with the flow and not let things bother us that we can’t control. Being present in times of suffering is also a major part of Kundalini Yoga. Hopefully, one day, it’ll become a part of your routine.

9. Kundalini Yoga helps relieve stress & tension

We all know what happens when our muscles get tense, but many people don’t know how their mind contributes to this process too. If you’re anxious about something going on in your life right now – you can be 100% certain that there’s tension in some parts of your body too.

By learning specific techniques on releasing muscle tension & spasms via controlled breathing and postures, which open up energy channels, one can live a more relaxed and less stressful life.

10. Kundalini Yoga helps one feel younger

When someone’s older self begins to look exactly like their younger self from the past, it usually becomes a sign that they’re still very much connected to their true self. The goal of life isn’t just about remaining young at heart, but it’s also about being able to see your wisdom as an opportunity instead of a burden.

The truth is nagging thoughts have a way of interrupting our inner peace, causing us to focus on things we can’t change & making us regret events from the past that we wish we could’ve changed as well.

If you want all these benefits from Kundalini Yoga, make sure to show up early and stay late for class. And if you can’t make it in the morning, doing a few minutes here & there when you get home from work is still beneficial (class is twice as effective, though.)

In our daily lives, we get obsessed with little things that don’t matter. We throw away a day worrying about what someone said to us or going through all the bad events from our past that might’ve happened.

This causes a lot of stress and tension in our bodies which leads to other problems like depression, self-control issues, and unhappiness in general. However, if you know the right techniques & tools on how to let go of this baggage via Kundalini Yoga, you can easily live by your true nature, which is bliss inside.
